Galveston Island Beach Polo is proud to present Heroes on Horseback, a premier two-day polo event honoring service, sport, and tradition. Set along the scenic shores of the Texas Gulf Coast, this signature Beach Polo Cup-Series will showcase elite Army and Navy polo teams in a thrilling matchup of skill, rivalry, and national pride.

Held December 6–7, 2025, this one-of-a-kind experience features matches across three custom-built beach polo fields, transforming the historic island into an arena of speed, strategy, and spectacle. Whether you’re a lifelong fan or new to the sport, you’ll witness the raw athleticism of the oldest team sport in the world, up close and personal.

History

Polo is the oldest team sport in the world, with roots tracing back over 2,000 years to ancient Persia. Once played by royalty and warriors, it has since evolved into a global sport. Beach polo brings the action to the coastline, offering a more intimate, spectator-friendly version that fuses tradition with coastal energy.

What to Wear

Think classic, coastal, and comfortable. Daytime looks range from breezy sundresses and linen sets to crisp polos and loafers. Footwear? Sand-friendly is best—espadrilles or flats. If you're headed to the VIP lounge, feel free to elevate your look with statement accessories and summer-chic flair.

Rules

Beach polo is fast, fierce, and a little different from the traditional game. Teams of three compete on a smaller, sand-based field using a rubber ball designed for the beach. Matches are divided into “chukkers” (periods), and the goal is simple: score more than the other team. Expect quick plays, tight turns, and horsemanship at its finest.

Yes! General admission tickets ($30) are available  to the public. VIP ticket options will also be available for those looking to enjoy shaded lounges, full-service bars, and premium viewing areas.
